JANUARY DANCE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Sunday Workshop – 3-count Hustle -   Yeah, I know, you’re picturing John Travolta, but we actually do a 4-count version of the hustle (actually it’s a form of swing) which is so useful you’ll dance it to a lot of the music that came out of the ‘70’s right on up to today’s party and house music.   So when everyone else is standing in a circle doing freestyle….. surprise them, do the Hustle!

Tuesday Cha Cha  -    The Cha Cha has been around since the ‘50’s and has become one of the most popular, most-universally done dances in its short history.   It’s one of the really fun Latin dances because the music is lively and varied, and the steps are just so much fun to do… and there’s so much cha cha music as far back as the Drifters and Roy Orbison, to today’s music….  And anyone can learn the cha cha…   We’ll run two classes – the Beginner Class and the Adv. Beginner class… one class is perfect for you…

Wednesday – Level II – SAMBA - this is a Latin dance done to some really great pulsating music.   It's not hard to learn because the basic step has a little bounce to it.   It can be done without the bounce... more like a social version of it, and we can show you how.   Don't be afraid to take the class... remember we have a beginner's class, too, and we'll go very, very slow.

Thursday Night Crash Courses

January 8 – Merengue - One of the easiest of the Latin dances to learn... ever.... and so much fun.... You can learn to dance a basic merengue step in less than a minute.    Then, pretty much, with a little guidance, you can move your body and move your partner, any way the music takes you.   So easy.... you won't believe it.

January 15 – Foxtrot - I call this one of the “lively” dances.   It’s not really fast but it’s not slow.   You kind of stroll around the floor to some great music that spans across decades.   It’s fairly easy to learn, one of the most popular of the social dances and still a good choice for all age groups.   One of the true Social dances that everyone should learn at some point in their lives.

January 22 – Waltz -  This is one of the most elegant dances you’ll ever find.   It’s been around for a very long time and is still very popular at dances and weddings, and even Country dancing.   If you don’t know the Waltz, you surely want to learn or relearn it.

January 29 – Salsa - This great Latin dance has actually been around for decades under the guise of Mambo.   The music’s changed and the dance has evolved and it’s much hotter and spicier, but it’s still a form of Mambo and now that it’s regained popularity it’s a dance you’ll want to add to your repertoire.

SATURDAY NIGHTS in January

Jan. 3 –BOLERO  - Bolero is unlike any other dance, yet has similarities to many.   It’s done to very slow “rumba” music, and although it still uses a Slow-Quick-Quick timing, the steps are slow and smooth.   The dance is beautiful, sexy, and graceful, but still can be done very smoothly in a social setting.   Did you know many people choose a Bolero for their wedding dance?

Jan. 10 – Merengue – see description above

Jan. 17 – Foxtrot – see description above

Jan. 24 – surprise lesson

Jan. 31 – BACHATA Bachata takes some of the best of the Latin dances and puts it into a fairly simple dance that anyone can learn.   It’s something like a Merengue, but different… I can tell you it’s a lot of fun and everyone enjoys the classes.   Come out and give it a try!
